The Cleanse Controversy
The word cleanse has become such a common household name that it has led to an influx of information and products causing massive consumer confusion and controversy. Sadly, what has resulted is misuse of a very important preventative healthcare practice. Last week the Wall Street Journal released an article about the debate over juice cleanses and toxins that was absolutely appalling. In the article, the author questioned whether or not the body is overtaxed with toxins, quotes skeptical medical doctors demanding studies for evidence of cleanse benefits, and ends with the simple recommendation of diet that includes a smoothie and more fruits and vegetables. If only it were that easy. I feel sick just thinking about such a widely read source for news and information continuing the tradition of misleading consumers.
What I can tell you is this: I have lived all over the world in both first and third world countries and I am never more sick, lethargic, and downright unhealthy than when I return to America. To say our bodies are not overtaxed is naive. To turn a cheek to what is happening in our food supply and the effects this is having on our health is ridiculous. All we need to do is look at the current physical, mental and emotional state of our society to know SOMETHING is not and has not been working. Obviously the allopathic medical community has not helped us alleviate these problems, and perhaps merely masked symptoms that has only caused more. In a recent conversation with a Pediatric Neurologist who studied at the famous Mayo Clinic and did her residency and fellowship at John’s Hopkins, I learned that in all her years of schooling, never once was she required to take a course in nutrition. Now that is scary. If doctors are so adamant about scientific research, why don’t we take a poll to find out how people feel physically, mentally and emotionally before and after a proper cleanse using high quality products, organic foods and supplementation. Isn’t this evidence enough? Anyone that understands how the metabolism operates knows how important it is to regularly purify the body of harmful substances in order for it to be functioning at optimum levels. And in today’s crazy world, this requires attention and support in a strategic capacity. To learn more about how the metabolism works and to unravel much of the nutrition and health information flooding your inbox, join me next Saturday, March 22nd, at “The Fundamentals of the Metabolism” workshop I will be teaching in Los Angeles.
