‘Tis the season that most of us will fall off track with our health goals and become a global statistic for weight gain, adding an average of 5 extra pounds to our waistline. Perhaps it is the extra social gatherings, perhaps it is increased stress and to do’s, either way, the first thing to go is usually healthy nutrition and exercise. Over the next three weeks I will be sharing 15 healthy holiday strategies so you can write a completely different story this year and avoid falling off the wagon this holiday season. Below are my first five tips that will set a solid foundation to carry you thru the month.
1) Keep Your Eye on the Prize Before we cruise into this last month of the year and the most hectic time of all, take a moment to get RAZOR clear in your long terms health and wellness goals. Becoming really clear in what these are will help you stay on track this season. This will be your anchor to return to for the next month. Reconnect with this vision multiple times a day and envision yourself living from this place. That will help you make choices that take you in the direction of that feeling, avoiding perceived short term gain over long term success and satisfaction. 2) Create a Fitness Plan and Commit to It If you have a very specific plan of action that outlines what & when, then it will be much easier to stay on track because you know what you are committed to and can plan accordingly. This will naturally overflow into your nutrition choices because you will want to eat healthier, avoiding unnecessary weight gain. Allow my FREE guide to establishing a Morning Ritual help you get to this point. 3) Enlist a Sweat Buddy One of the easiest ways to stay on track with any goal is to enroll a friend or hire a professional. This will keep you accountable and also support you with a cheerleader to share in your wins and struggles. It’s another way to create clarity and a plan of action. 4) Get the Family Involved The holidays tend to be a time of greater a family interaction. Choose some new healthy recipes and get the family involved with meal planning, preparation and cooking. Also, get the crew moving. Rather than making cookies or gingerbread houses, lace up your sneakers and go for a hike or take a spin class. Do something out of the norm and get the gang involved. Make it fun and an adventure rather than work. 5) Do a Full Body Cleanse While it may sound crazy, cleansing between Thanksgiving and New Years is a great way to avoid holiday temptation and weight gain. In fact, you will do the opposite. Watch as everyone will be enamored by your dedication and will power, looking at you with envy because stay committed to yourself and to your goals. Plus, it is a great way to get a head start on the New Year. All of my cleansers that detox during the holidays ALWAYS thank me for helping them stay on track. It is a guaranteed strategy for maximum success. There you have it, the first five of fifteen. Implement these and create a solid foundation and plan of action for the next four weeks. Here we go!!
