8 Foods To Keep in Your Kitchen If You Want to Be Healthy
As promised, this week I am bringing you practical application nutrition information and education. So here you have it! LIVE right now on MindBodyGreen folks — 8 Foods to Keep in You Kitchen if You Want to Be Healthy...
“If you want to make it easy for you and your family to eat healthy, start by making sure your kitchen is stocked with nutritious staples for quick snacks and meals. Below are 8 kitchen staples to stay on track in any situation.
1) Braggs Liquid Amino’s
Skip the soy sauce and grab for Braggs. Most soy sauce is filled with highly processed ingredients, most of which are GMO, and is high in sodium that has been stripped of all of the minerals and causes inflammation. Braggs, is a great alternative and is loaded with amino acids, which are the building blocks of protein. It has naturally occurring sodium that actually can help your cells absorb the nutrients that you’re feeding it.
2) Coconut Aminos
Coconut Aminos are similar to Braggs, only they are slightly sweet making it a great alternative to teriyaki sauce. Teriyaki sauce is loaded with sugar and additives that are VERY addictive. Coconut Aminos, on the other hand, are made from coconuts, filled with amino acids, organic, slightly sweet, and super yummy.
3) Organic, Raw Coconut Oil
Coconut oil is truly a magical food with a ton of health benefits. Choose this as an alternative to all other oils. The fat in this has been shown to enhance brain function, increase energy expenditure, and much more. It even helps fight harmful bacteria in the gut and it may reduce your appetite. When I crave a sweet in the evening, I will have 2 tsp of coconut oil instead and it works like a charm every time.
4) Organic Liquid Stevia
Fat doesn’t make you fat. Sugar is the problem – it throws everything out of whack. This even applies to “natural” sugars like honey and agave because they have the same effect on the body. Avoid this by using organic liquid stevia instead. This is the best way to sweeten beverages, baking, and sweet treats. Avoid the packets as most contain mystery ingredients like dextrose or other harmful chemicals.
5) Organic Almond Butter
Organic almond butter is a great snack, slightly sweet, and filled with valuable nutrition that will fuel your body. Plus it has healthy fats which are essential for high brain functioning! Choose this over peanut butter and pair it with rice cakes, apples, celery.. the list goes on! Plus it can be combined with suggestions 1 and 2 to make a yummy thai almond sauce for a stir fry.
6) Organic Nuts & Seeds
Move over Potato Chips! Load up on organic almonds, macadamia nuts, walnuts, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds… the list goes on! Nuts and seeds are an awesome snack filled with valuable nutrition and fat, all of which keeps us going and also helps us feel full longer. They are also great additions to meals to spruce things up – adding to salads and cooked dishes for added flavor and texture.
7) Fresh Organic Ginger Root
If you only have one fresh herb in your house, let it be ginger root. This food is not only DELICIOUS and flavorful, it is one of the healthiest things we can put in our body! Ginger is AWESOME at helping with inflammation, the root of ALL Dis-Ease. It is also great for soothing an upset tummy, GI problems, colds, joint pain, menstrual cramps, you name it! Grate it on top of a salad, chop it an add to any cooked dish, simmer it to make a tea, or juice it for maximum benefits!
8) Organic Quinoa
Quinoa is one of the MOST nutritious foods we can put in our body and has been called “The Supergrain of the Future.” Technically it is a seed, but it is a great compliment to any meal. Loaded with a ton of protein, fiber, iron, amino acids… the list goes on. And it comes in a few varieties which all have their own unique flavor to keep it interesting and mix it up. Skip the bread and pasta, and get creative by integrating this powerhouse. Plus, it cooks in no time making it very easy and convenient… NO PLANNING!
There you have it — healthy, easy, quick, and DELICIOUS! ENJOY!!
