The End of the Debate – Organic Food Rules!
For those that have not taken the big leap and gone 100% organic, I have some news that may change your mind. Many like to argue that conventionally grown foods are just as healthy as organic, and that there is a lack of evidence to prove that they are indeed worth the added investment. Some would even say that those of us that have made the switch to an all organic lifestyle have bought into a great consumer farce.
I have news, and the debate can now be resolved. Skeptics can now read the evidence for themselves as a recent analysis by researchers at Newcastle University in England concluded that organic foods are significantly better for you than conventionally grown crops.
According to the Environmental Working Group press release, the scientists analyzed 343 peer reviewed scientific studies and concluded,
“consumers who switch to organic fruits, vegetables, and cereals would get 20 to 40 percent more antioxidants. That’s the equivalent of about two extra portions of fruit and vegetables a day, with no increase in caloric intake.”
If that’s not proof enough that you get more bang for your buck, then check out the second piece of evidence that was significant,
“Conventional crops had twice the amount of cadmium and were three to four times more likely to have pesticide residues than the organic versions, the Newcastle study found. Cadmium is a highly toxic heavy metal contaminant that has been linked to kidney failure, bone softening liver failure and lung cancer.”
The study also sited, “While crops harvested from organically managed fields sometimes contain pesticide residues, the levels are usually 10-fold to 100-fold lower in organic food.”
I don’t know about you, but these facts alone make me feel good about the higher prices at the checkout counter. My belly is always happier, and my body always thanks me for making the greater investment in my health. Because really, without our health, what quality of life do we truly have??
