Dealing With Loss: Are you living?

Loss…  It comes in all shapes and sizes and brings new challenges.  Whether it is a change in job, moving house, a break-up, or the death of a loved one, the package generally stirs up mixed emotions while riding the wave of the seven stages of grief.

This week began with the very unexpected loss of my grandmother.  While of course the logical mind realizes that she was in her early 80’s, she lived a great life, and she has gone to a much better place, the emotional heart is left to bleed.  What this has done is opened old wounds from the loss of my mother only six years earlier, provided the opportunity to take my healing to an even deeper level, and reminded me of my own capacity to love.  As the day passes I sit surfing the emotional roller coaster and notice all that is coming forward.  In this enigmatic place of stillness, I once again begin to ponder the deeper questions and meanings, look at the areas of my life in which I am not living, and check in again with my own conscious creation.  I notice the stories that continue to drive my life and am now empowered to make change.  I notice the expectations I am placing on myself and on those around me, and I see where I can rise above the human condition in order to be of greater value to the world.

You see, for me death is a powerful process of re-birth.  It is a physical wake up call to take a snap shot of life in this very moment and see who you are, how you are living, and where you are putting time and energy.  Loss is an opportunities to take the lessons and the clarity in order to make shifts and create positive, impactful change within myself and my own life with the intention of being of greater value and service to others.

I close by asking you to ponder —  How are you not living?  Where in your life are you holding back?  What are those deepest desires that lie hidden under the rug of fear?  What are the excuses that keep you from dusting the rug?  We never know when we will take our last breath.  Is it worth it to keep holding back?
