Did you over do it over the 4th?

Feeling bloated, lethargic, and like you need a reset? 

Don’t worry, I’ve got ya.

The Fourth of July kinda reminds me of the Super Bowl, when most people lazy around and mindlessly munch and sip on things that are not usually part of the normal food intake.  

It’s not everyday you over-indulge — and most likely your body is asking for some TLC. 

Here are 5 simple tips to detox and reset after the Fourth of July extravaganza. 

If you can commit to any of these (or all) for just 3 days, you’ll feel like yourself again, maybe even better than before!

1. Start your morning with a green juice or smoothie. It doesn’t have to be fancy.  In fact, my motto is “Let it be easy.” Here’s a quick and easy recipe to get your detox started.

Nykki’s Detox Smoothie

4 cups kale or spinach
2 large cucumbers
2 stalks celery
½ green apple
1 lemon, squeezed
¼ inch of ginger
1 cup cilantro
Pinch of cayenne pepper

Blend until smooth. Remember—buy organic when possible to minimize your exposure to harmful chemicals and to get the most nutrients from your produce.

2. Grab a salad for lunch filled with your favorite greens and toppings. Spinach, kale, arugula, mixed greens, carrots, celery, cucumber, broccoli, daikon radish, bell peppers — get creative! 

Bonus points: make it meat free and choose no dressing.  Instead, brighten it up with a squeeze of lemon over the top and ¼ of avocado.

3. Consider going plant-based for a day or 3 completely. Give your digestive system a break by swapping quinoa, mung beans or black beans for animal proteins. 

4. Commit to drinking at least 64 ounces of high quality water a day. Not a Brita, I’m talking reverse osmosis, remineralized good stuff.  If you don’t have access to a foo foo water store like we do in LA, try PENTA, Essentia or Evian.
