So now that we are equipped with the information to staying healthy at the airport, maybe it’s time to dive into keeping fit when we reach our destination. Especially considering the long weekend we are about to embark upon. You can be headed to the hottest climate in the summertime or snow in December and there’s still a way that you can maintain your health while still getting the most out of your vacation.
Bring your habits with you. Practice what is important to you, regardless of what continent you are on! Continue your rituals. Download my FREE Morning Rituals guide to help you establish a healthy, productive routine.
What feels more like vacation than the beach? You can use this relaxing hot spot for your workout routine, as well as play. Sand adds resistance during runs, which makes it more challenging and a better workout. Cool things down afterwards with some beach yoga. Lay out your mat and do some stretches and meditation to the soothing sounds of the ocean. And of course you can always get in the ocean and tread water – one of the best workouts ever.
Vacationing near a gorgeous park? Get out for a fast walk or a jog, and then use park benches for dips, pushups, and squats. Then find the daunting park steps and get that heart rate pumping!
Heading to a popular tourist attraction like the Eiffel Tower? Opt for the stairs as you journey to the top. It’s more fun, less expensive, and when you make it to the summit, you’ll really feel like you’ve earned the amazing view. Or better yet, tie up your laces, go on a hike, and view the sites from a different perspective.
Research gyms, community pools, dance clubs, and fitness activities open to the public. These are fun ways to mingle with locals, get a taste of the local culture, and break a sweat while doing so. Some gyms even offer a free class to newcomers, which wandering travelers can absolutely take advantage of.
And last but not least, and my personal fave, get your booty on the dance floor! Whether you find a dance class with the local flair (think salsa or tango), or make your way to the hottest club, put on those pretty little slippers and get your body moving!
Traveling can be hectic and staying with your exercise routine doesn’t have to be a chore. Have fun and explore this new territory while still maintaining great health! Have a great weekend!
