Here’s the truth – If your health goals include losing weight, then we’ve got to have an uncomfortable conversation.
For those of you that know me, you know I always keep it real, and for those of you that are just getting to know me, you will come to see that I say it like it is and always point out the pink elephant in the room.
Today I want to approach the popular topic of weight loss. However, rather than just diving right into the foods you should eat, or how much you need to hit the gym, we need to do a deep dive into that psyche of yours that keeps you from realizing your weight loss goals.
You see, weight loss is about so much more than just what goes into your mouth. I work with so many people from all walks of life, and the reality is that if we do not address their relationship with themselves, as well as their relationship with food, then just getting them on a food plan will almost ALWAYS land them exactly where they started.
It all starts by getting super friendly with the conversations that are swimming around beneath the surface, typically the ones you do not want to listen to, and becoming best friends with what Brene Brown calls, “your gremlins.”
Most people don’t talk about this stuff because this is the hard stuff. But I really care about you and want you to realize success. I KNOW that if you don’t start here… then no matter how hard you work, your goals will be an uphill battle that often can lead right back to where you started.
I am going to begin with a little story so you understand…
I was at a yoga event recently and ran into a fellow Ashtangi (Ashtanga is a style of yoga for those of you that don’t know) who shared with me about her recent weight loss. The story began with how she had been fighting an injury but finally gave in and started doing a very simple, almost inactive style of yoga.
She was nervous about gaining weight with a reduced amount of activity that revolved around pushing and hard work.
When she made this transition to a much easier form of exercise, what accompanied was effortless weight loss. She couldn’t figure it out… she changed almost nothing about what she was eating, yet the weight simply fell off her frame.
How was it that the “no pain, no gain” mentality she had ascribed to for years presented struggle and ZERO results, and the non-effort, almost non-action oriented exercise had been so fruitful? All despite not changing what went into her mouth at all.
I laughed and said that from my perspective it all made perfect sense.
She was finally listening to and honoring her body, which meant she had dropped the axe within, accepted her situation, and was being more gentle and loving with herself. Her new approach required her to surrender to what she really needed, and as a result, her body had no reason to defend itself.
You see, LONG TERM weight loss typically requires a meta-physical shift BEFORE there can be a physical change. Very often carrying excess weight is a method of unconscious protection.
THE VERY FIRST STEP OF ALL WEIGHT LOSS IS TO STOP THE WAR WITHIN.
You’ve got to accept where you are, to free yourself of the judgments that you have it, and to start to love and embrace what you have been given.
Because believe it or not, your body is a gift – and it is the gift you CHOSE in this lifetime as your tool to live your purpose.
It is only when you are in a place of acceptance and loving with it that you will truly become empowered to make changes. Otherwise, most likely you will enter into some kind of self-sabotage behavior that usually has to do with beating yourself up, depriving yourself, or over indulging.

One of the most common reasons people carry extra weight is because they need protection from themselves and NOT from the outside world.
When you feel SAFE inside yourself, there is no need for protection.
This safety is developed thru self trust – a process that happens thru positive self talk, positive body talk, and thru making positive choices that take you in the direction of your goals – AS LONG AS THESE ALIGN WITH GENUINE ACTS OF SELF CARE.
When you develop trust in yourself, then this process of weight loss becomes easier and more effortless than imaginable.
Weight loss, on a metaphysical level, happens like this:
First, you must stop the war within.
Then you can begin feeling safe. (already, weight will start to wither)
Safety develops further when trust is established.
Trust is built thru repeated action of self honoring choices.
Self honoring choices lends to the creation of a healthy body, mind & Spirit inside and out.
It is all a process. And I have been blessed to bare witness to it many, many times thru this magical process of working with individuals in their cleanse process.
My favorite part of this process is that people come to me for weight loss, and they always succeed, but what happens is that they always experience a deeper level of healing, awakening and empowerment than they could have ever imagined. Their life force energy pulses thru their veins and they feel ALIVE, inspired and IN LOVE.
