“In honor of my myth busting series, this week I want to clear up a common theme and belief I often see regarding weight loss….. There are a huge number of weight loss myth that one may encounter on their journey to weight loss.
HUGE WEIGHT LOSS MYTH #2 –
( I want to preface that most people don’t usually say this, they DO it. Below is the thought that goes thru the mind. It’s is a habitual, psychological process.)
“Skipping meals or slamming a quick protein bar will help me lose weight. I don’t have time to eat anyways.”
Guess again.
This is one of the biggest flaws I often see in people’s plan and in their behavior when it comes to nutrition & weight loss initiatives.
When I worked in a metabolic testing lab coaching practitioners in how the body works at the level of the cell, I had the distinct pleasure to learn just how our metabolism functions.
It was during this experience I was able to understand how our metabolism thrives on proper nutrition – (vitamins, minerals, amino acids, & enzymes NOT calories, fat, protein & carbs).
It NEEDS these in order to carry out our life functions.
Let me explain,
Our metabolic reactions are taking place all day every day…. Our cells are VERY busy, and they have big jobs to carry out. BUT they cannot do this unless they have the proper nutrients to do their work.
When there is no food, there is no life… and that’s when things go downhill. Energy crashes, mood swings, brain fog, inability to perform, the HANGRIES… Also, this is often one of the biggest habits that contributes to INSOMNIA.
Over time, this pattern can actually really damage the system.
Now I am not saying we should just be eating all day every day. I am saying that we need to start prioritizing eating proper meals and not starving ourselves all day.
This pattern of behavior often ends up in overeating at the next meal – whether it be a huge meal or a festival of grazing followed by a meal followed by dessert… and then the body gets to deal with this while sleeping.
Ugh.
But here is the kicker…. If you want to lose weight, and nothing seems to be working, consider changing the oil… Clear the congestion from your body so that your metabolism can reset & your organs can work properly.
If your liver is clogged, it can’t metabolize fat. If your gut is damaged, it can’t digest & absorb your food. If your blood is filthy, your cells will start to die.
You change the oil in your car a few times a year to make sure it performs at optimum. How often do you do the same for your body??
WHAT IF – as an experiment for the week – instead of skipping meals or slamming protein bars as a replacement — you paid mindful attention and had 2.5 – 3 solid, healthy meals a day. What if you prioritized yourself at the very foundation of your being, and committed to this process.
What might happen?
You will only know if you try.
